Related Laws and Regulations Related to Laboratory Animals and Animal Experiments《講師:Toshio Imai》
It goes without saying that analysis using laboratory animals is essential for medical research on various diseases. However, animal experiments must be conducted properly according to certain rules and in accordance with an experiment plan that gives full consideration to animal welfare. In this course, we will proceed to explain the relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines that animal experiment personnel need to understand at a minimum. Pain Level Classification and Perioperative Management of Animal Experimental Procedure《講師:Kazuhiro Yamamoto》
Pain Level Classification and Perioperative Management of Animal Experimental Procedure《講師:Kazuhiro Yamamoto》
Animal experimenters are obligated to objectively judge the degree of pain experienced by experimental animals as a result of planned experimental procedures, and to take measures to alleviate the pain. Based on the "SCAW classification", which is widely used as a standard in Japan and overseas, we will explain how to judge the degree of pain in experimental animals due to animal experimental procedures, and also explain perioperative management in highly painful surgeries. Humane Endpoints and Euthanasia in Animal Experiments《講師:Kazuhiro Yamamoto》
Humane Endpoints and Euthanasia in Animal Experiments《講師:Kazuhiro Yamamoto》
Animal experimenters should discontinue experimental procedures if they determine that an experimental animal is experiencing distress not anticipated in the plan. Humane endpoints are the criteria for discontinuing experimental treatments or euthanizing animals based on symptoms, etc., which are determined at the planning stage. We describe common humane endpoints, as well as a brief description of methods for euthanizing animals to relieve them of intolerable pain. Fundamentals of Anesthesia for Laboratory Animals《講師:Tadashi Okamura》
Fundamentals of Anesthesia for Laboratory Animals《講師:Tadashi Okamura》
When conducting animal experiments, it is required to minimize the pain and suffering that the animal receives. The use of anesthetics and analgesics is effective in reducing animal pain. Anesthesia and analgesia methods used in experimental animals are reviewed. PDF of the PowerPoint document used in this video is available for download. Characteristics of Triple Mixed Anesthetic《講師:Tadashi Okamura》
Triple anesthetics, which are balanced anesthetics, are widely used, mainly in rodents. It has a wide safety margin and is very easy to use, but it is necessary to understand its characteristics when using it in animal experiments. We review the properties of triple anesthetics and illustrate their impact on experimental data with specific examples. PDF of the PowerPoint document used in this video is available for download. Euthanasia Method for Laboratory Animals《講師:Tadashi Okamura》
Euthanasia Method for Laboratory Animals《講師:Tadashi Okamura》
Euthanasia is the act of inducing rapid loss of consciousness and death in experimental animals without pain. Animal experimenters performing euthanasia must be properly trained and select a humane method of euthanasia according to the purpose of the experiment. An overview of internationally accepted methods as described in the “American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Euthanasia Guidelines 2020”.PDF of the PowerPoint document used in this video is available for download. Infectious Diseases in Laboratory Animals《講師:Hideki Tsumura》
Infectious Diseases in Laboratory Animals《講師:Hideki Tsumura》
Infectious diseases in experimental animals are a factor that greatly affects animal experiments. It is listed, in the standards for the care and storage of experimental animals and the alleviation of suffering, the 3rd common standard states that "strive to maintain the health and safety of experimental animals" and "perform necessary health management such as prevention of disease". It is the basis of animal experiments that experimental animals are kept healthy and used for experiments. Microbial monitoring for the early detection of infectious diseases in experimental animals is outlined, and the effects of currently prevalent infectious diseases on experiments are explained.
